“Full House’s Jodie Sweetin responds to Candace Cameron’s ‘disgusting’ comments about her drag performance at the Olympics…
Jodie Sweetin came to TikTok in order to defend the act after her former co-star Candace Cameron Bure had criticized the performance.
Jodie Sweetin has come out in support of the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, which has been receiving criticism from conservative pundits due to a segment of the program that included drag dancers.
For what they claim to be an effort to ridicule Leonardo Da Vinci’s famed painted painting of “The Last Supper,” which depicts religious characters, several loud opponents have aired their vitriolic fury at the opening ceremony. They feel that the mural was mocked by drag performers who took the place of the religious figures painted on the mural.
However, as explained by Thomas Jolly, the director of the opening ceremony, the scene was actually inspired by and an homage to the painting “The Feast of the Gods,” which depicts the Greek god Dionysus and was created by the Dutch artist Jan Harmensz van Biljert in the 17th century. The painting is currently housed in the Musée Magnin in Dijon, France.
Sweetin posted a video on her Instagram Story that explained the relationship to Dionysus. She also placed the following caption above the video: “Tell me you don’t know about art or history without TELLING me you don’t know about art or history.”
The contentious image that took place at the event that took place on Friday on the Debilly Bridge in France included DJ and producer Barbara Butch, who is a well-known LGBTQ+ icon. She was wearing a headpiece that resembled a halo, and she was flanked by drag performers on each side of her as she was seated at a table. Because of this, several people were under the impression that the performance was making fun of the sacred picture.
Butch, on the other hand, was really representing the Greek god of wine, celebrations, intoxication, insanity, and fertility. A magnificent meal to celebrate a marriage is shown in the picture titled “The Feast of the Gods,” which portrays a meeting of Greek gods on Mount Olympus from where they have gathered.
Despite the fact that it makes more sense, given the link to the Greek beginnings of the Olympics and the fact that the picture that is being replicated is a treasure from a French museum, a number of loud conservatives and religious leaders nonetheless expressed their disapproval of the performance.
Notably, Candace Cameron Bure, who had previously worked with Sweetin on the television show Fuller House and with whom Sweetin has had public disagreements in the past, was one of the individuals who voiced their disapproval of the event.
“To watch such an incredible and wonderful event that’s gonna take place over the next two weeks and see the opening ceremonies completely blaspheme and mock the Christian faith with their interpretation of the Last Supper was disgusting,” Cameron Bure said in his article.
And that made me feel a great deal of sadness. And someone another added, “You have no right to feel sad.” You can’t help but feel angry about it. As for me, I’m saying, “Trust me.” She went on to say, “It makes me angry, but I’m even more sad because I’m sad for souls.” He continued.
She immediately rejected the explanation, adding that she is “not buying it,” and that it was not “acceptable for children to watch.” Cameron Bure was then supplied with the facts regarding the motivation, and she simply dismissed it.
Regarding the current state of Bure and Sweetin’s relationship, the source said to ET at the time that Candace’s statement regarding conventional marriage had a significant influence on a great number of individuals. As a result of Jodie’s disagreement with Candace’s statements, she felt it necessary to express her position. Candace is dissatisfied with Jodie’s decision to behave in this manner in a public setting rather than having a private conversation with her.
