Officer Nazariya “knew he ought to do something about it as soon as he saw the old vet’s house.”

All of our veterans deserve our thanks for their service and selfless sacrifice on behalf of our nation.

However, people may need assistance in return rather than just a simple “thank you.”

When an elderly veteran in the state of Washington needed help, his community rallied together to provide it.

They accomplished many altruistic deeds of service that profoundly enhanced his life.

Lewis Harris spent all of his time living alone in a dilapidated home.

Now eighty years old, the elderly soldier had been living alone for a while. Even though he had started to feel alone, he disclosed to King5 News that:

“I want to make no one feel in any way uncomfortable.”

As a result, he may not have gotten in touch with his neighbors as soon as he might have, but living in his house was becoming harder and harder.

He was an isolated man living in a dilapidated house near Redmond, Washington. Even though he seemed like he was doing well, things began to go wrong for him.

Harris became aware of a deterioration in his condition and decided he had to get help as soon as possible.

Lewis Harris, like almost everyone else, realized at some point in his life that he was not capable of handling everything on his own.

Despite his extensive career and years of service to his nation, he still needed to develop the practice of asking for help when he needed it.

Thus, he acted. He started by asking a grocery shop clerk what was the best route home.

Harris realized abruptly that he had no clue how to get home while out conducting errands. Fortunately for us, the clerk decided to call the police and request aid.

Harris was able to explain his situation to Officer Nazariya when she arrived at the company and informed her that he just needed some help at that particular moment.

Harris said that he could not see and could not remember how to get home.

By the time the officer got to this stage, it was clear to him that the veteran was a community member in need of help.

He was free to drive him home, the police told him.

Officer Nazariya knew he had to call for help after seeing the extent of the devastation to Lewis Harris’s former home.

Harris living in that house by himself was not what he wanted. Officer Nazariya considers it a fortunate coincidence that his wife works as an interior designer.

The guy was instantly helped by the policeman and the man’s wife.

After successfully convincing her to come see Harris’s property, the two of them started a thorough makeover of the house.

Additionally, neighbors began offering their assistance.

Upon hearing Harris’s story, many businesses kindly contributed a significant amount of money to assist him in building the house of his dreams. These contributions allowed Harris to fulfill his dream.

They also sent more staff to help with the physically demanding labor.

Together with the help of community people, Lewis Harris’s house became the home of his dreams.

His house was turned into a tribute to his life and military career, which included hanging photos of him from his time in the army on one wall.

Furthermore, he placed quartz countertops, which are quite durable in addition to having a beautiful appearance.

Lewis Harris was filled with emotion the moment he laid eyes on the gorgeous new house he had bought.

He was moved to tears when he saw the home for the first time after all these years since he had missed most of its changes over the years.

This act of kindness made him feel obliged to work toward improving himself.

As reported by King5 News, he said:

Okay, I nearly felt like sobbing after reading it. It touched my heart and soul deeply, and there was something about it that made me weep.

All I can do is try to be a nice citizen of the United States and help those in need, because I will never be able to repay them.

It’s beautiful to see a bunch of people supporting one another, particularly when one of them is really in need of aid and is in terrible shape.
