A young woman crochets her own prom dress inspired by Zendaya for sixty dollars, and she does it in only three days…
Boston kid crochets Zendaya-inspired floor-length prom dress for $60, going viral.
PEOPLE exclusively reports that Sarah Akinbuwa was asked to a prom as a date but given just four days to prepare. An avid crocheter, Akinbuwa wanted to construct her own garment.
18. “I had to make a dress by hand,” Akinbuwa tells PEOPLE.
So she did. Her pink, strapless floor-length gown with crocheted flowers on the bottom, a matching shrug, and a purse took three days to make.
Zendaya’s 2023 SAG Awards pink strapless Valentino Haute Couture gown with 190 flowers on the skirt inspired the style.
More than 26 million people have watched Akinbuwa’s prom makeup tutorial.
Another TikTok video shows her wearing the garment in a public lavatory as a passerby admires her effort.
That individual can be heard saying, “I love your dress,” in the background of the conversation.
In response, Akinbuwa says, “Thank you, I made it,” and then goes on to say, “It took me around three days.”
The following is what Akinbuwa had to say about the outfit: “My friends loved the dress, and I got tons of compliments.”
On the other hand, crocheting a gown that is floor-length in only three days is not something that anybody should attempt. Even though she is still young, Akinbuwa is hardly a newbie when it comes to her trade.
“I have been crocheting since I was 12,” she said in her interview.
@that_crochet_gurl00 I was overwhelmed with compliments!🥹💕this is the best part of crocheting fr #crochet #fypage #fyp #crochetptomdress #prom #pink #fypviral #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp ♬ original sound – Sarah🐤🧶💕
Besides designing and crocheting her own prom dress, Akinbuwa claims that she also “makes custom orders” for friends, family members, and others who follow her on social media.
What about life after graduating from high school? According to Akinbuwa, “I have to be a fashion designer.” This statement may not come as a surprise.
